ASPE Newsletter Volume 29 Issue 8
President's Report
President’s Message
There have been a few chapter events since the last newsletter. The Women of ASPE event, which I was unable to attend due to work conflicts. Reporting on this event was that it was well attended, fun and generally successful. I would like to thank Mary Kaster and our friends at Delta and Summit Sales for supporting our Chapter.
The other event was the STEAM Night at Tomahawk Elementary. That one Mike Oliva, Larry Tatum and I presented so I can go into a bit more detail. We had some stiff competition being set up next to the police officer with all her law enforcement gear. Not to mention, the robots running down the hallway, and a neuroscientist with a human brain! Just sitting there on a table. That was what I was able to observe from our station so kudos to Tomahawk for showing out. With all that going on we still had great engagement.
Our presentation was set up in three parts the principle, the problem and the solution. The principal was density. We demonstrated this with a density column and some interactive water bottles. The problem was grease in the sewer. Johnson County Wastewater helped with some resources. The cool part about this is we were able to educate them about the problem and tell them how they can be the solution! Sean Molen with Schier came in strong to round out the solution part of the presentation. He provided a video of how a GB-3 works as well as a cut open GB-3.
We had a successful presentation, and I had a lot of fun! Thanks to all above who helped make this happen. I look forward to future engagement, so if you know of any similar events, please give the board a heads up. Please give the board a heads up if you have interest in or have ideas for future presentations.
The Chapter year is winding down. We have our May meeting and the Golf Tournament coming up. I would like to remind you all that this is a convention year and this year it is close to home in Oklahoma City. We still have some delegate spots available. Please reach out to a board member if you have interest in being a delegate. We do not get details or the ability to register for the Convention until sometime around mid-July. We will send out further information on the convention when we know more.
